Planning Your Trip
Do I need a visa to visit Uganda?
Most visitors need a visa to enter Uganda. The East Africa Tourist Visa also allows travel between Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya on a single visa if you’re combining destinations. We recommend applying online in advance and can advise on the requirements for your nationality when you enquire.
When is the best time to visit for a safari?
Uganda can be visited year-round. The dry seasons (December to February and June to September) offer the easiest game viewing and trekking conditions, while the wetter months bring lush scenery and fewer crowds. We’ll recommend timing based on the activities and parks in your itinerary.
Do I need vaccinations before traveling?
Yellow fever vaccination is required for entry into Uganda. We also recommend consulting a travel health professional about malaria prevention and routine vaccinations well ahead of your trip.
What should I pack for a Uganda safari?
Neutral-colored clothing, comfortable walking shoes, a light rain jacket, sun protection, insect repellent, and binoculars are all worth packing. For gorilla or chimpanzee trekking, sturdy hiking boots and long sleeves are recommended. We share a detailed packing list once your itinerary is confirmed.
Gorilla and Chimpanzee Trekking
How do gorilla trekking permits work?
Gorilla trekking permits are issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and are limited in number each day, so they should be booked well in advance. Permits are non-refundable and non-transferable once issued. We handle permit booking as part of your itinerary planning.
How fit do I need to be for gorilla trekking?
Treks can range from under an hour to several hours through forest terrain, depending on where the gorilla families are on the day. A reasonable level of fitness helps, but porters are available to assist, and our guides pace treks to suit the group.
